“Why can’t we get along?!?”
Sometimes, together time for families feels like a battle zone.
Every person wants something different for dinner.
Every person chooses a different activity for family fun (?!?!).
Every person wants what he or she wants and right now… wants to be first… wants undivided attention.
How did family time become such a competitive game?
Time pressures, busy activity schedules, the need for “space” unmet, or a younger sibling whining about something petty all contribute to push and pull and demands for attention in the life of a family.
Parents feel overwhelmed and underappreciated.
Kids feel ignored and unseen.
“When will all the complaining, arguing, screaming, door-slamming end? We’re SUPPOSED to love each other, right?”
Each family is unique.
Children, tweens, and teens all have contrasting needs, yet they are expected to comply and adapt to the overall harmony of the family.
The needs of the family are determined by its members.
Therefore, no family’s therapy sessions are like any others.
I help struggling parents to discover the power of human connection.
As a former educator, I bring a unique perspective regarding the developmental stages of children of all ages, and the power of quality parenting in these young lives.
Play, sandtray, and art therapy are among the age-appropriate, attachment-based activities that are incorporated into sessions to foster positive parent-child interaction.
I work with parents and children separately and together, teaching and encouraging an attitude that promotes engagement between parents and their children, and siblings with one another.
A Breath of Fresh Air
Nature therapy is also often utilized when working with families – there’s a vast amount of research about the benefits of nature for mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health for all people.
Families are encouraged to collaborate in discovering fun and interesting outdoor activities that allow them to connect as they explore or work on a project.
Give your family the gift of connection.
Envision your family sitting at the dinner table together enjoying an engaged conversation, or going for a family walk or bike ride – and everyone is smiling – even laughing, or preparing a meal together, or cleaning up the kitchen together (without a food fight).
It CAN happen! Don’t wait another day.
You, your family, and I will make a great team as we all pull together.
